Douglas Fir Solid Stave Drum Kit

Regular price $5,900.00 Sale

This Douglas Fir Drum Kit was built from old gymnasium bleachers. The original holes were from the old bolt holes and are now used as venting. We can customize your kit dimensions or depths with an email. You can also buy it just like this. Each drum kit is built to order making your drum kit a custom kit.

Antique wood gives the drum sound a blast of projection and clarity.  That's in direct relationship with the high resin content from the slow growth timber most of which was in the forest in the 1600s. Once this wood is gone it's gone.

Specializing in 200-600 year old wood reclaimed from tobacco barns, gymnasiums, plantation houses and old bridges. First we disassemble the structure checking all boards with metal detectors. Then surface plane the ancient wood. Next it is dried in a kiln for weeks. Then and only then do we start the building project.  The American wood reborn series is hand crafted and designed to highlight old nail holes, saw kerfs, spots in the wood that were stained from years of tobacco leaves sitting on them, or where oil ran down and dripped on the floor for years from a mill. On Some applications we leave the original nails in the drums and on some occasions use the original bolt holes for venting.  Each drum kit is a unique piece of artwork. The waiting list for this line is 2-3 months.
